DESCRIPTION
The GUARDIANS program is a top-secret project initially known as Project H.E.R.O. (Hardship Endurance Research Operation) launched in 1953 in an effort to make soldiers impervious to the rigors of the battlefield. Dr. Miles Lucas and a team of research and development chemists created Zeus Formula Alpha, which, when injected into subject lab rats caused fundamental changes to occur on the genetic level. When the time came to try the formula on a human subject, naturally a convict was used as the guinea pig. The test subject, Maxwell Alice, proved the success of Project HERO. He developed the super-human ability to rearrange and recreate molecules using only the power of his mind. This result far exceeded the expectations of Dr. Lucas, but his glory was short lived. Alice was largely uncooperative during the testing procedures, and then escaped from the compound where he was being held. Eventually he was apprehended and dealt with accordingly. Dr. Lucas was ordered to scrap Project HERO and his funding was pulled. It would seem the risks far outweighed the rewards. Years later the Government decided to reinstate Project HERO under its new moniker, the GUARDIANS program.
