DESCRIPTION
The Secret Garden, by Frances Hodgson Burnett, was first published in 1909. It tells the story of young, disagreeable Mary Lennox who has been orphaned and sent to live with her reclusive uncle at Misselthwaite Manor. In her wanderings through the Manor's gardens, she stumbles on to a locked door that encloses a secret garden. She determines to gain access to the garden that has been locked for ten years, and in doing so sets out on an adventure that will change her own nature. Mary, along with her sickly cousin, Colin, and her peasant friend, Dickon, makes it her mission to make the garden come alive again. In doing so, she makes changes not only in the garden, but also in her cousin and her self.
